Tv manufacturers know this problem for many years and that’s why they used a high refresh rate, in early 4K TVs the refresh rate is about 120Hz but in the 1080p age, there are some models which can use a 240Hz refresh rate and above its depend on which country do you live. A higher refresh rate doesn’t fix the motion blur problem as it held the image for some time, but you actually don’t even notice it. As it is so fast beyond your brain.

2) A soap opera effect is caused by motion interpolation

The modern TV can be a surprising amount of accuracy. This can be explained in an example if a ball is put on the right side of frame A and a ball is put on the left side of frame B then the TV can be easily assumed that the ball is in the centre of frame A and frame B. A 120Hz Tv determines what this frame AB would look like and insert more frame between frames A and B. This means that there are more frames between frames A and B which took less time to hold the frame and switch to the next frame very quickly. With sports or reality videos, a new frame is inserted between every original frame which results get less motion blur and HD resolution. But it creates a problem with scripted content or non-reality content, as Hollywood and others still recorded their tv shows at the rate of 24 fps(Frame per second). Interpolating frame increases the frame rate so that 24 fps content doesn’t look like 24 fps but looks like 30 fps or 60 fps, due to this it creates a soap opera effect which makes the motion ultra smooth and makes it artificial-looking.

Most TVs allow you to turn it off, as well as adjust how intense the frame interpolation is. But By putting 24fps content on a 60fps display, judder can be reduced.

3) Black Frame Insertion

Fortunately, there are some other techniques for those people who hate the soap opera effect and its name as black frame insertion. In this technique, a black frame is inserted in every original frame. Though filmed were not actually framed in 24 fps. This was actually shown slowly so that people can flicker, instead, each frame was shown 3 times. Adding blanks to the film was a simple strategy to give the look and feel of higher frame rates without the additional cost of additional stock. With the black frame insertion, it takes less time to hold and sample the frames so that it takes enough time to make your brain fool and think there’s smooth motion.

Another method uses a rolling or scanning backlight, which dims portions of the image sequentially. In the top quarter of the screen, the backlight might darken first, followed by the middle top, middle bottom and bottom quarter of the screen.

The black frame can also be categorized according to how “black” it is. TVs that operate at 120Hz may insert a duplicate frame but one that’s darker. It’s not black, just darker. However, this method has its drawbacks as well. There is not as much light loss, but perhaps the motion seems less sharp.

4) Know your TV Setting To Control Motion Blur
